Taking A Step Back From Twitter
Hi friends.
Hope you’ve been well!
I’ve been doing a lot of self-reflection for the past few months or so (perhaps since late last year when I was laid up with pneumonia), and I’ve come to the realization that I don’t want to be on social media as much anymore.
I’ll still post (probably), like your tweets, like your IG posts, and RT your tweets if they make me laugh or if I want to add something to them, but I won’t be on as much at all.
I have a number of things going on in my life (school, work, and writing my book, oh my!), that have all of my attention and I don’t think it’d be fair to continue to spend the few minutes I do have of the day scrolling mindlessly through Twitter (or Tumblr) seeing posts that have little to no relation to me, myself, my work, or my school (in a meaningful way). And I’m divorcing myself of the notion of FOMO. It doesn’t exist. At least to me.
It can’t when you’re trying to start your career.
And let’s be serious, 90% of things posted on Twitter have no real bearing on one’s life. Chances are, what someone is dealing with (not a world-changing event mind you) shouldn’t affect you (mentally, emotionally, or what have you) to the point you’re angry or ruminating on it for the entire day. (This does not include naturally upsetting news about a mutual/their experience or something similar of course.)
I’m just saying, for me, it doesn’t help my anxiety and sense of well-being to constantly be bombarded with others’ opinions, and day-to-day lives that have no direct bearing on mine.
In removing myself somewhat from Twitter, I’ve felt much happier, and clearer on what I actually like and enjoy, what I actually think about situations or whatever, and I’ve been able (of course) to get more work done (on my book mainly) because I’m not spending hours on the app scrolling anymore.
To bring it back to my writing, I’m focusing more on SINNER SHARPE: BLOOD REIGN (book 2) and will be sharing how that’s going in the newsletter and my blog in the coming weeks and months.
Thank you all for your interest in my work thus far and I’m working hard to write the best stories I can for you all to read.
With Blood and Love,
S.C. Parris
